MOAI Mental Health First Aid
We run the only mental health training courses designed and delivered by working psychiatrists.
Our mental health first aid courses will equip you with the knowledge and skills to recognise and respond to common mental health difficulties.

BEGINNER
Mental Health Awareness Course
This half-day course provides an introduction to mental health and mental illness. Attendees will leave with a foundational understanding of the causes, symptoms and treatment of mental illness. This is a critical first step in combatting stigma in your community.
You will cover an abridged version of modules one to four of the full programme.
INTERMEDIATE
Mental Health Champion Course
This one-day workshop provides a thorough and comprehensive understanding of mental illness, covering the presentation and management of common mental health conditions.
It will also teach you how to prevent the development of poor mental health, recognise the early warning signs of mental illness and tackle stigma in your local community.
The course will cover modules one to four of the full programme.
ADVANCED
Mental Health First Aider Qualification Course
After completing the mental health champion course, you are eligible to complete the mental health first aid programme. This one-day course will equip you with the practical skills required to become a qualified mental health first aider.
The course involves learning the MOAI six-step approach to mental health first aid. You will have the opportunity to practise your communication skills, discuss case scenarios and rehearse advice around signposting and safety netting.
This course will cover modules four to eight of the full programme.

What is the role of mental health training in the workplace
Providing mental health training to all employees is an important step towards mitigating the effects of mental illness by raising global understanding of what it is and helping reduce stigma around reporting it. However, our clinical team at MOAI are keen to share their view that mental health first aid training should not be considered as a complete workplace wellbeing solution.
Mental health first aid training does not
Count as a complete workplace mental health strategy
Qualify individuals as therapists or counsellors
Substitute the requirement for professional assistance
Mental health first aid training does
Form a component of a systemic workplace mental health strategy
Instruct individuals on non-judgmental listening
Reduce stigma around mental health
Facilitate conversations around mental illness
Provide guidance on identifying early warning signs
Enhance awareness of personal and others' mental health

No, we no longer offer Mental Health First Aid training. Although we delivered this course previously, our clinicians felt there was a better way to equip managers and leaders to support their teams. Our Mental Health Lead course provides skills and practical experience and a level of risk assessment which in our experience is more realistic for a workplace.
Do I have to do the Awareness training to be eligible for the Mental Health Lead qualification?
No. We recommend our Mental Health Awareness course for all employees, and our Mental Health Lead course for managers and leaders.
Our team of experts are committed to working closely with you to better understand how we can develop sustainable and meaningful change together
